UMass WR Commit David Moore Jr Excited For Future
2026 New Jersey WR David Moore Jr. is one of the prospects Joe Harasymiak and his staff is most excited about.
David Moore Jr. committed to UMass back in June, but it was the consistency the Minutemen showed him throughout the process that led the 2026 New Jersey receiver to make that decision.
“When they first came to my high school and when Coach (Kayon Whitaker) first talked to me, he said he loved my film,” Moore explained. “He said he watched my film and he said he was going to show it to Coach (Joe Harasymiak), Coach (Jared) Osumah, Coach (Jordan) Hogan.
“He was like, ‘If they like it, we’re going to offer you,’ straight like that. I went up in February, they offered me, and it’s just been consistent ever since Day One. They never stopped believing in me no matter what. They were always there, always calling me every day, texting me and doing whatever they had to do. That was the deciding factor.”
Moore was being pursued by multiple Power-4 programs, including Pittsburgh.
But as he continued to dive into the Minutemen, he came to believe in the new staff in Amherst.
“I would definitely say just really good, genuine dudes,” Moore said of the UMass coaches. “A coach is supposed to sell you what they’re supposed to sell you, but I would definitely say you could feel the genuine side of them. They’re here for you.
“They’re going to do everything in their power to make me a better person and a better man every day.”
The West Orange High School star is excited to be coached by Hogan, the Minutemen’s receivers coach.
“That’s my dog,” Moore said of Hogan. “I’ve had a lot of conversations with him and I’ve been in the room with him while he’s been teaching to show the receivers, like, ‘OK, if you’re here, you’ve got to get here to catch the ball here or make a play here.’
“I like how he coaches. He coaches similar to my high school coach, that’s where it comes in playing. I can relate a lot to what he’s saying because I’ve heard these things before.”
Moore has taken note of how often Harasymiak has publicly talked about the importance of UMass’ 2026 recruiting class.
“For him to be able to say that in front of the cameras, that means that he believes in us, which I said before, texting me and calling me every day and still believing in me and sticking to the process,” Moore said. “Believing in who he has recruited and to come in to make the place a better place.”
The class, which currently includes 20 prospects, is becoming close with each other as well.
“We have our group chats and stuff like that,” said Moore. “We always talk to each other. We play the (video) game with each other and things like that.
“It’s definitely a diverse group. There are definitely some guys in there that can give you a little chuckle.”
Moore likes the fact that multiple prospects in the class are also from New Jersey.
“I love that because we’re from the same place, so it’s like, ‘OK, you understand what I understand. You know what I’m on. So we’re going to get the job done together,’” he said.
He’s also in the ear of his West Orange High School teammate, 2027 tight end Sydney Padilla, who made the trip to Amherst with him for the game against Western Michigan.
“Of course,” Moore said. “I talk to him a lot about it. He’s still young though. He’s 2027. He’s got a lot of time for OVs, all those visits and all that, spring games. So he’s got a lot of stuff to do.
“I just keep it rolling because at the end of the day, they’re going to tell me to keep it rolling and try to sell him the same thing they sold to me and just be like, ‘Whatever you feel, whoever you feel is loving you the most or showing the most love to you, whatever we feel is most genuine, where you’re going to play at the quickest, I just feel that’s where we should go.’”
Moore is buying into Harasymiak and the staff’s pitch about coming in and helping to turn the program around.
“It just comes down to just having a mindset every day to come in and work and have a peace of mind to get the job done every day to work towards that success that we’re trying to get to.”
