UMass Shores Up Its Secondary With Zach Farris Transfer
UMass get big-time experience from transfer portal in former Dartmouth DB Zach Farris
UMass football officially announced the signing of graduate transfer Zach Farris today, adding another piece to an already deep secondary group.
The Minutemen made a move for Raheim Sexil a couple days ago, and now add Farris to an experienced defensive backs room.
Farris is transferring from Dartmouth, after playing up to his senior year with the Big Green. Last season, he played 10 games and totalled 27 solo tackles while intercepting two passes. He had six pass breakups, highlighting his ability to defend wide receivers at a high clip.
UMass special teams coordinator Joe Castellitto, who came from Dartmouth, has proven his connection with his former players as Farris is just the latest player Castellitto and the UMass staff has brought in from the Big Green.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder from Coral Springs, Fla. went to Cardinal Gibbons High School where he played cornerback on the Florida 2020 Class 4A state championship team. He won the Presidential Award for academic excellence, ultimately leading him to playing his first four seasons at Dartmouth.
Football and athletics run in his family with his brother Rojesterman “Roe” Farris II having played at Hawaii, as well as spending the 2021 season on the Denver Broncos practice squad. He also is a distant relative of Jesse Owens.
The Minutemen have a number of athletic pieces they have added to the room in the last year with Malcolm Greene, TJ Magee, DD Snyder and more. Farris adds an element of speed and quickness UMass previously lacked.
