UMass Season Preview | Offensive Line
First-year offensive line coach Kurt Anderson's unit may be both the most overlooked and most important unit on offense.
The Flagship Pod’s Mike Corey has said it time and again, we can talk about the skill guys all we want, but it doesn’t really matter without the games up front.
The starting quarterback surely matters, as do the players he’ll be handing the ball and throwing it to, but none of them will be able to do anything without a stout offensive line.
First-year UMass offensive line coach Kurt Anderson has been tasked with making sure the Minutemen are capable of holding up in the MAC and then some.
And as with virtually every position on the roster going into the 2025 season, UMass will feature some new faces on the offensive line.
Kyle Brown (Harvard) and Michael Entwistle (Dartmouth) are Ivy League graduate transfers who will be competing for spots at guard, but if they are going to featured parts of the rotation, they will need to earn it. At 6-4, 295 pounds and 6-3, 295 pounds, respectively, Brown and Entwistle provide much-needed size to the overall room.
Redshirt senior Ryan Mosesso is one of a couple familiar faces remaining in the two-deep at offensive line, having played in 11 games last season. The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder from Marshfield, Mass., is competing at one guard spot.
Meanwhile, redshirt junior transfer Sullivan Weidman is trying to lock down the other. The 6-foot-5, 318-pound Weidman is a Massachusetts native, but spent his first three seasons at West Virginia, where he saw time at guard and on special teams.
Redshirt senior Benjamin Roy looks like the best bet to be at center. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder from Las Vegas spent three years at UCLA before transferring to UMass, where he saw action in 11 games last season.
Like guard, tackle should be a bit of a competition.
At 6-5, 310, Zachary Franks provides even more bulk to the room after transferring from Duke this summer. Prior to his time in Durham, Franks was at Northwestern, where he worked under Anderson and first-year UMass offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian.
Graduate senior Luke Painton will be competing for a spot at tackle as well. The 6-foot-7, 320-pounder from Pennsylvania began his career at Columbia before transferring to UMass last season.
6-foot-3, 305-pound redshirt senior Mao Glynn II is also in the mix. Glynn spent two seasons at Cincinnati before transferring to UMass last season.
Anderson has some big, smart, hungry offensive linemen in his room. His mission is to mold them into a cohesive unit that will give the skill players time and room to operate.
