UMass Bounces Back Against UMass-Boston
The Minutemen got back into the win column on Monday afternoon with a 91-40 home win over UMass-Boston
UMass delivered a dominant, wire-to-wire performance Monday afternoon, rolling past UMass-Boston 91-40 at the Mullins Center.
The Minutemen controlled the game from the opening tip, using defensive pressure and rebounding to create separation early and never allowing the Beacons to find any offensive rhythm. UMass led comfortably at halftime and continued to stretch the margin throughout the second half while rotating freely through its lineup.
The Minutemen moved to 9-4 on the season after having their five-game win streak snapped by Kent State on Saturday.
UMass shot 37-for-76 from the field, good for 49 percent, while holding UMass-Boston to 15-for-57 shooting at 26 percent. The Minutemen limited the Beacons to 4-for-27 from three-point range and consistently contested shots without fouling.
The rebounding margin told much of the story.
UMass finished with a 66-21 advantage on the glass, repeatedly extending possessions and preventing second-chance opportunities on the other end. The Minutemen also recorded 28 assists on those 37 made field goals, with ball movement an obvious focus.
UMass-Boston struggled to sustain offense against UMass’s length and activity, finishing with 15 turnovers and just eight assists. 11 different Minutemen scored as UMass was able to spread minutes throughout the afternoon, using the game as an opportunity to build depth and evaluate rotation pieces in extended roles.
The win marked one of its most complete performances, combining efficiency, rebounding dominance, and unselfish play over 40 minutes.
UMass returns to action next Tuesday at Eastern Michigan. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
