Top 2027 MA QB Peter Bourque Talks UMass Offer
The Minutemen offered one of the best signal-callers in the Commonwealth.
One thing is clear, under first-year head coach Joe Harasymiak, UMass is going to go after the very best players in the Commonwealth regardless of who else may be recruiting them.
Last week, the Minutemen offered 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque from Tabor Academy in Marion.
It may be early in Bourque’s recruiting process, but the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Bourque already boasts an impressive list of scholarship offers from schools like Penn State, Maryland, Syracuse and Kentucky among others.
But that didn’t scare off the Minutemen and new assistant Drew Belcher from letting Bourque know he had a scholarship offer, just as the previous staff had told him.
“It was important,” Bourque told Minuteman Command. “I think they're trying to do something good here and it meant a lot that they came by and showed the interest in me and the guys, letting us know that we're re-offered by the new staff.”
Several of Bourque’s Tabor Academy teammates also received offers from UMass last week, including 2026 defensive lineman Marcus Almada, 2027 receiver Kaiden Drinkwater and 2027 offensive lineman Grady Holmes.
In-person communication has to be limited at this point, but Bourque was able to connect with the Minutemen later.
“I talked to the quarterback coach,” he said of Belcher. “He seems like a young, impressive guy who's going to do good things in his coaching career.”
Bourque and his teammates may head out to Amherst together for a visit sometime.
“I just want to see the campus life there,” said Bourque. “I visited there once already last year. They've got a cool campus. Their dining halls, I know, are insane. That's a cool part of UMass. I want to see a game day environment there. I haven't been to a game.
“I know they've got a great business program. That's very interesting to me.”
Bourque took in gamedays at Penn State and Michigan last fall, but isn’t sure where he may head this winter.
“I'm kind of finding out from schools that are coming by for winter visits and that stuff,” he said. “But I think I'm going to get out to Penn State, I'm still kind of figuring the rest out.”
It may be early, but Bourque already has an idea of what will matter most to him when he’s choosing a college.
“I would say my relationship with the coach of course and if it's a place where I really want to stay all four years. I'm not trying to go into the portal four times.”
