Top 2026 QB Target Tyler Bell Visiting UMass This Weekend
2026 New Jersey quarterback Tyler Bell is taking an official visit to Amherst this weekend.
UMass has put itself in a strong position to land one of its top targets in the Class of 2026 in Tyler Bell.
The 2026 New Jersey quarterback landed his offer from the Minutemen back in May. He visited Amherst prior to that and has since hosted assistant quarterbacks coach Drew Belcher for an in-home visit.
“They've just been showing me a lot of love,” the St. Peter’s Prep tells Minuteman Command. “I was up there for a practice and they showed me around the place.
“The energy was great, the coaches were great. The team had that energy going and it just seemed like a fun place to be and a great team to be a part of.”
Bell will get a closer look at the program and the school when he returns for an official visit this weekend.
“Just continuing to build that relationship,” Bell says of what he’s looking for this weekend in Amherst. “Also, taking a look at the campus side. School's a big thing for me, so just taking a look at that and then getting a feel for it, just making sure I fit in that place and stuff like that.”
Bell has remained in touch with Belcher since the in-home visit last month.
“We've been talking,” says Bell. “He texts me here and there, just having simple conversations, staying in touch, making sure we continue to build that relationship, getting on the same page and everything like that.”
The 6-foot, 185-pounder threw for 1,965 yards and 27 touchdowns along with more than 400 rushing yards and six scores as a junior last fall.
Bell’s offer sheet also includes Princeton, Buffalo, Georgetown, Albany, Lehigh and Wofford among others.
He’ll take an official visit to Rhode Island next week and could have a final decision this summer.
“Ideally, I want it to be done before my senior year, just so I could go out and play stress free my senior year,” Bell says.
“That's the ideal thing, but if that doesn't happen, if I don't find it, then I'll be willing to wait. It is what it is. But hopefully before my senior year.”
