BREAKING | 2026 DB David Chiavegato Commits to UMass
The Minutemen have secured their second commit from the Class of 2026
As the UMass Football program works the Portal heavy this spring, the Minutemen are also putting in work with high school recruiting.
That work paid off in one respect today with the Minutemen adding another piece to its future.
David Chiavegato officially announced his commitment to UMass on Monday.
Chiavegato is the second class of 2026 commit, along with New Jersey defensive lineman Robert Ekins.
The 6-foot, 195-pound junior chose UMass over offers from other schools, including Air Force, Army and Sacred Heart.
A local native of Walpole, Mass., Chiavegato plays at Xaverian Brothers High School, a Catholic school located in Westwood, Mass., where he plays wide receiver and safety.
Chiavegato is being recruited to play defensive back in Amherst, but he one look at his film and it’s easy to see that he could make an impact at multiple spots if the Minutemen so choose.
As a junior, Chiavegato helped Xavierian to its second straight state title, totaling 1,317 yards of total offense along with 15 total touchdowns. On defense, he registered 48 tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups.
Outside of football, Chiavegato participated in track and field.
Chiavegato is in an outstanding academic position, with a 4.00 GPA.
