2028 OL & Legacy Prospect David Sanger Impressed With UMass
2028 Massachusetts offensive lineman David Sanger is an emerging prospect in New England.
David Sanger is building early momentum in his recruitment and UMass sits in a strong position at the moment for the 2028 Massachusetts offensive lineman.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder from Williston Northampton holds offers from UMass, Rhode Island and UConn, among others.
The Minutemen’s presence carries added weight given his family ties. His father, David Sanger Sr., was an All-Atlantic 10 and All-American punter for the Minutemen back in the early 2000s.
The younger Sanger was back on his father’s old stomping grounds earlier this month. He was in town for UMass’ Junior Day, but his visit was structured a little differently.
“I didn’t do the whole morning thing because I’ve already done that before,” Sanger said. “I’ve done that in previous years, two years before in a row, so I got that.
“But I still got to talk to all the coaches, the head coach and everyone like that, so it was good.”
Sanger is impressed with the football facilities in Amherst.
“Everything is literally right there,” Sanger said. “They have a straight walkway from the locker room to the training room to the weight room, then straight to the field. They call it the Road to Success.
“It looks amazing. There’s everything I need. The locker room’s beautiful. It’s brand new. The weight room’s pretty much new as well. It’s awesome.”
Sanger has developed a strong connection with head coach Joe Harasymiak.
“He’s the man,” Sanger said. “Just hearing him talk, hearing him after the games they had last year and everything like that. He’s such a positive dude and always brought a positive impact to the team. He’s always checked up on me. He’s always just been there.”
Sanger also recently spent extended time with offensive line coach Brian White during his most recent visit.
“We got to sit in his office and just talk football and hang out,” Sanger said. “From what I hear from everyone else too, they say he’s just the hardest worker. He’s in there day and night. He’s got such high football IQ. He’s a funny coach. He was making me laugh everywhere.”
The Longmeadow native emphasized that forming bonds remains the next step with UMass.
“I’m just going to keep trying to build my relationship with every coach I can,” Sanger said. “Just keep building my love for UMass and just keep going through there.”
Sanger appreciates the familial ties.
“It’s really cool to see the same place where my father played have interest in me,” he said. “I’m so grateful for it.”
Sanger has also visited Rhode Island for a spring game and camped at UConn last summer. He plans to continue seeing as many campuses as possible and is not close to narrowing his options.
But as a sophomore, Sanger isn’t planning to rush anything.
