2027 QB Target Will Wood Talks UMass Offer
2027 Massachusetts QB William Wood has been on the Minutemen's board from the start and now he has an offer.
William Wood was a recruit the new UMass staff had on its board from the start.
The Minutemen explained to the 2027 Massachusetts quarterback how they envisioned the process would go and, so far, it’s gone pretty much exactly according to plan.
“I've been in contact with them since they first came to the school in December or January,” the Xavierian Brothers High School standout told Minuteman Command.
“They basically told me, 'We need to see you throw to offer you since everything you did on tape was good enough to offer you.'”
UMass offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian returned to the school later in the winter and reiterated the plan.
“Then, he came by a couple weeks ago and watched me throw and he was like, 'You're our number one guy for the 2027 class and we want to offer you a scholarship,’” Wood explained.
“It's awesome. It confirms a lot of the hard work that I put in. I'm definitely a big fan of UMass. I'm definitely interested in them, so it was definitely awesome.”
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Wood also has offers from Syracuse, UConn, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina and Rhode Island.
Still, the Minutemen have his attention.
“I like the new feel of the coaching staff,” said Wood. “It's more of a high-level environment. They run it like a Power-Four program. There's a lot of experience there.
“Coach (Joe) Harasymiak knows what he's doing. I got to sit down and talk to him when I visited back in January. And Coach Bajakian also has a ton of experience working with NFL guys like Jameis Winston.”
Wood is planning to return to Amherst for another visit sometime next month.
“Just to get to talk with the coaches more and see how the team works, how the players work and just get more of a feel for the new program,” he said. “I've only been there once with the new staff.”
He’s also looking at summer trips to Syracuse, UConn, Virginia and possibly Minnesota.
It’s early, but Wood has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college.
“The culture, a winning culture. How the head coach takes care of his players, but also coaches them hard. I want to be coached hard because I want to get to the next level obviously, and just a winning program.”
