2026 DT Samuel Mulbah Talks UMass Commitment
Pennsylvania star ready to bring a different type of intensity to the Minutemen
It was a match made in heaven between UMass football and 2026 Pennsylvania defensive tackle.
Mulbah stands at 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, and spoke fondly about his journey to the Minutemen, as well as his unique connection with head coach Joe Harasymiak and defensive line coach Nyeem Wartman.
“The whole staff seems like people that can teach me how to be a better man, husband and person at the end of the day,” Mulbah said. “Just the love they showed me, it was my first offer and I love everything Coach H is building with the program.”
Many players and coaches have emphasized the change happening in Minuteman Football, but Mulbah saw it first hand through his time at the University, and an official visit a couple weeks ago.
“(What Coach Harasymiak is building) is program changing,” Mulbah said. “Even talking to some of the players that were on the team last year, they said nothing operated like the way he’s operating right now. Everything he’s done with the program and players, the belief, ownership and sacrifice, they all stand by that.”
He was convinced Amherst would be his future home after hearing everything Harasymiak and Wartman, his future position coach, had to say.
“I love the campus and I love everything that they all stand for,” Mulbah said. “I’m just 100 percent in…I’m going to bring out that energy. I’m a really intense type of person.”
The Trinity High School standout highlighted his passion and love for UMass, but his talent sits on an upper echelon. Mulbah received nine Division I offers in total before his commitment. The likes of Albany, Old Dominion and others were all involved in the sweepstakes for the high school star.
Football runs in Mulbah’s family with his older brother Fatorma Mulbah just recently signing with the New York Jets. His brother also played college football at powerhouses West Virginia and Penn State.
Mulbah portrayed the importance of family, but no one helped him feel that connection more than Coach Wartman.
“Coach Wartman actually made it a priority to come and do a home visit,” Mulbah said. “He met my family and got a bit of a connection with them. Then when we went down (to UMass), they just made it a priority to make me and my family feel like home, and I just felt that (UMass) was just that.”
Mulbah saw Wartman as someone he could grow with. The first time they met each other, and an offer came on the table, football wasn’t the main topic of conversation. It was just a simple conversation about how he and his family were doing.
“He’s somebody I feel like I can connect with on a deeper level than football,” Mulbah said. “I just know that he is somebody that in the next 10, 15 or 20 years is going to be in my wedding. He’s somebody who’s always going to be there for me.”
Due to Wartman and his fellow colleagues' determined recruitment, they have brought in a plethora of talent in the 2026 class. Mulbah represents that group highly as one of the top offer getters the Minutemen were able to lure in.
In his junior campaign, he earned All-Conference Honors and Second Team Defensive Line. He finished the season with 55 tackles, 16 tackles for losses and five sacks. He also affected the passing game with four tipped passes. However, an eye-opening statistic is his three blocked kicks. With UMass’ new expert special teams coordinator Joe Castellitto, Mulbah could be heavily utilized.
Mulbah continuously preached the love he had for Coach Harasymiak and his Believe, Ownership, Sacrifice motto.
“B.O.S. is not just a model. They all stand by it and I just see how they all respect each other…I’m going to bring the juice each and every day, and they are going to get used to hearing the name Samuel Mulbah.”
